Margot TS #5

In our previous tutoring session, Alice said she would most enjoy a reading passage about cats. I found a passage about a young girl who wanted a kitten so bad that she adopted one even after her parents said no. We talked about prereading strategies before starting the reading. We used to title and the pictures to guess what the reading was going to be about.

After that, I had Alice read through the passage on her own. At the end of every paragraph, we made guesses as to what would happen next and go over any words she had difficulty pronouncing. Alice became easily frustrated when she couldn't understand a word right away and would often just skip over it. We talked about we have to ask questions if we want to get better.

After she finished reading the passage, we went over some comprehension questions. We talked about why the little girl in the story would lie and whether or not that was a good decision. I also had Alice compare and contrast the kitten in the story to her stuffed animal kitten (name 2 things they have in common and two things that are different.) At the end of the lesson we talked about the comic she is still writing.
