For our last lesson, I decided to utilize a resource I found a while ago which is Time Kids. They are short but informative articles about current events that are very digestible for children, and coincidentally ESL students. I read an article about a treasure hunt a man set up in the Rocky Mountains then encouraged people to hunt for it. We defined words like “diamond, emerald, antique” and others that came up. Then, I found a YouTube video where a man owns a treasure hunting business where he encourages people to participate in these hunts in their towns to explore and discover new things about their town. The video was a little longer, but was in a consistent and level appropriate speech rate. Dave and I talked about how fun local treasure hunts might be and then unfortunately I had to wish him good luck at his new school year and thank him for being a great tutee!
