Today I introduced Je-won to hobbies. I provided a list of popular hobbies, all with their own clipart pictures for visual aids. After listening and repeating the vocab words, I asked him “do you like __?” questions to reinforce and practice old phrases. Afterwards, we transitioned to my PowerPoint in which I showed my own pictures of the hobbies I liked to do, such as painting, taking pictures and traveling. In the PowerPoint, I made slides with gifs of cartoon characters performing the hobbies we learned. For each slide I asked Je-won to identify the hobby using the phrase “I like to [hobby]”. I enjoyed finding the fun gifs for this lesson and Je-won seemed to be interested in them as well. Finally, as a review and listening activity, I prepared a script that included things we have covered like age, the days of the week, weather, hobbies, animals, food and drink. The dialogue was direct and short. I asked him simple comprehension questions and repeated the script many times in a level appropriate speech rate. Thanks to the repetition he was able to accurately listen and answer my questions correctly.
