Alice and I talked about fashion differences in the USA and Italy for this conversation meeting. Alice said she was startled when she moved to Tallahassee because of how many people she saw wearing the same clothes that were all FSU oriented. She also said that people wearing socks and sandals was bizarre for her. She said that in Italy people dress well all the time as a way to express themselves. However, she also said that this can be stressful because there is a lot of pressure to look nice all the time. I told her that in the USA there is a stereotype that international students always overdress for classes. American students wear sweatpants to class and anything fancier can seem odd to us.
