Today
I am continuing last session’s house vocabulary lesson by introducing kitchen
and living room vocab. I showed the vocab words and pictures and asked Je-won
to repeat after me. After the vocab lesson, I showed a PowerPoint with clipart
pictures of rooms in a house that we have already covered (bedroom, bathroom,
kitchen, & living room) and asked him to identify vocab words. I corrected
pronunciation and explained incorrect responses when needed. For example, he
struggles with the word fridge, so I enunciate it clearly and ask him to just
listen. Also, he confuses pots with pans, so I explain the differences again. Because
I want him to start utilizing more sentences in his speech, I also introduced
common verbs used alongside the nouns we have practiced, like open, play,
brush, wash, and watch. I made sure to show visual aids to help with
understanding and memorization. Then I read sentences using these verbs and our
vocab words, such as “I brushed my teeth with my toothbrush,” “I washed my
hands in the sink,” and “I like to watch tv in my bedroom.” To end the session,
I asked him my usual daily questions about the weather and what he ate/drank
today, so he can practice speaking in sentences using old vocab.
