I met with Dave again over Zoom on July 10th and had a new resource for him to explain when to use “short/long” and “close/far.” Dave had been trying to express that the boys’ locker room at his school was very far away so they were always late to PE class when the girls’ locker room was closer so they were never late. He was using “short/long” to describe distance when it is more common to use it in reference to time. The website I had found also had many examples to reinforce the concept and once Dave understood it, we revisited his writing response and corrected the sentences where he made this error. Then, Dave used all of the corrections we made to rewrite his response and it was very good. I felt more comfortable knowing where his strengths and areas to be improved were for further lessons.
