 Date/Time: Wednesday 07/8 @3pm

Today I complied 4 YouTube videos for Soojin to watch. The videos are all from popular channels that cover social and cultural topics and get millions of views. The objective for this lesson is to show Soojin videos that should be interesting enough to encourage in-depth discussions to practice conversational English. The first video I showed Soojin was Jubilee’s famous ‘Odd Man Out’ series where 7 contestants all claim to be U.S. citizen, but one is a liar and they have to figure out who that is in order to win a cash prize. Soojin seemed really intrigued with the game. We had a good conversation about diversity. We talked about how the contestants all looked to be from different racial and ethnic backgrounds, reinforcing the fact that the United States is very diverse, and you can’t really tell who a citizen is just by looking at them. The next video was from Cut and it had people guess what language someone was speaking while blindfolded. We also had a good discussion and this video was fun to watch. This pattern continued for the other two videos. Whenever there was a word or phrase Soojin didn’t understand, for example, coming-of-age and vice, I paused the video to explained and gave examples.
