Ahmed and I met again over Zoom and checked in with each other and surprise, surprise, we talked about Daytona Beach again. Ahmed shared times when he was challenged in the US because of unfamiliar situations and he’s worried about repeats of those when he moves to Daytona. He shared how one time he ordered a pizza from a different restaurant and he ended up including ham, which is forbidden to eat in Islam. He said he didn’t want to cause a fuss and decided to give the pizza to people he sees often that he thinks are homeless and I was so endeared to hear that. However, Ahmed went to go give the pizza to them but they were engaged in a fight and it was late at night and he was worried about his safety. I told him he made the right choice! And said too his ability to analyze the situation helped him as well. I reassured him that if he were to encounter something like that in Daytona, he would be able to use his acquired skills to react appropriately.
