I met with Ahmed again over Zoom and he unfortunately still does not know if he’ll be departing this weekend for Florida to begin his master’s. We discussed the tragedy that just happened in Lebanon where my family is thankfully safe and organizing aide. We discussed a little bit about stereotypes of Arab people in the US and how it makes life difficult for visibly Arab people in the US and how we can work to dispel those stereotypes. I assured Ahmed that when he eventually does come to Daytona, whether this fall or spring, if he has any questions I will be available to guide him in the right direction, and he is definitely invited to my Lebanese family’s Christmas celebration while he is in Daytona. I told Ahmed I am excited for him to start his program as I believe his English skills are very good!
