Tutee: Soojin
In today's session, we started by reading an article about the surveillance state in China. This was a pretty advanced article, so I made sure to check in every few paragraphs to make sure that Soojin was understanding and comprehending the reading. After we discussed our thoughts on the article, I've played a YouTube video in order to introduce to Soojin our next focus, which was learning slang words. These YouTube videos were of different celebrities talking about slang words in their respective languages. I thought that this was an entertaining segue into learning new slang words. I found a list online of common slang words among younger people in America and it was interesting because Soojin new quite a few of them because she watches the show "Orange is the New Black" on Netflix. I told her that watching English shows on Netflix was an excellent way to learn English because it will help her to be able to understand the natural flow of English as well as common expressions/idioms in English.
