Naomi CP#3

On July 27th at 4:30pm, I had my fouth conversation partner session with Mohammad. We met at another coffee shop. I asked him about any critical incidents that he had experienced. He began by talking about the connotation that the police had here as opposed to in Saudi Arabia. With all the current protests, Mohammad mentioned that to him, it seemed that there was a fear of cops. He explained how he has talked about this with some of his friends, and they seem to have the same sense. In Saudi Arabia, the police are not feared; they are viewed as people who protect the citizens. Mohammed used to live in Great Britain for a short period. During our conversation, he also brought up how the roads and transportation were different than he expected. Saudi Arabia has been copying a similar transportation style to the one here in America. But in the U.K there was more public transportation. When he came to the U.S, he was not expecting to need a car so much. We also talked about the health care system and how he was surprised to find out the cost of going to the hospital in an ambulance. In Saudi Arabia and in the U.K, the out of pocket cost for health care is significantly lower than in the U.S. Mohammad saw the disparities in cost as something that should be looked at as a human rights violation since health care is essential. Overall, this topic was very interesting and I got to learn more about my conversation partner's views and how his culture affected that.
