Naomi CP #2
On July 22nd, at 4:30 pm I had my second conversation partner meeting with Mohammad. Instead of meeting over zoom, we met at a coffee shop. This time our conversation continued to lean mostly towards food. We talked about traditional Arabian desserts and different Muslim holidays. It was raining on that day so we talked about the cultural differences between the connotation that rain has. In Saudi Arabia, since it is a very dry and hot area due to the deserts, rain is seen as a sign of good luck. When it rains all the kids go outside and play in the puddles on the street since rain comes only a few times a year. We also discussed differences in customs. For example, in Saudi Arabia, a lot of people eat with their hands and the food often features many sides. In-person, the conversation went way more smoothly than over zoom. Despite the topic of conversation being similar to last time, I was still able to learn a lot more about Saudi Arabia and Muslim customs.
