So Thank fully I logged onto my computer to look at my emails, otherwise I would have never gotten Soo-yeon's email about the meeting. We had a bit confusing with the meeting dates. We had understood Sunday EST time, except that is Monday, Korean time.
I had been working on a basic review lesson plan for Soo-yeon's 8year old daughter Ye-won so I jumped straight into that. I had set up review for the Alphabet, Colors and numbers 1-30. Ye-won knew the alphabet completely and the numbers and colors. Throughout the session, we reviewed them about 3 times.
I didn't want to overwhelm her so I asked if she knew how to spell the numbers, she didn't. By using the whiteboard function and the power point presentation I had created in the background I began to teach her to spell the numbers 1-10 at first. I would say the number than spell it out for her. As she would spell it out herself, I would have her say the word after me and repeat each letter as she wrote it. Through this I would be getting her to practice speaking English, reading the word and memorizing how to write it. She caught on VERY fast. I was very impressed. After the first cycle of my repeating and her writing, I had her do it on her own. I let her write the numbers out again and had her say each letter as she did it. We reviewed the numbers 1-10 and I taught her how to write the numbers
11-20 with the same format of repeating the word and spelling it out
loud.
Afterwards we took a little break and we reviewed the colors of the rainbow. Once we did that I taught her how to play I spy. I set up random objects in my background and had her spy a color and I would guess what object it was. To each object she chose, I asked if she knew how to spell it (she didn't) and I taught her how to spell it. After about 8 tried we went back to more academics.
Once we ran out of things to spy on, I found a old Cinderella book I had as a child and red it to her. After each page, I would ask her questions as who the characters were, what color were the dresses, how many people were in the picture and if she thought Cinderella was happy or sad. She comprehended it all very well and answered everything correctly. I used this to somewhat review the colors and numbers we had gone over and also entertain her since she was a bit shy in the beginning.
Since I didn't have much more to go over, I had her write the numbers 1-20 again and spell them out loud. After, we went over the objects we found during I spy. She mentioned she liked to draw, so I gave her homework to draw out each new word we had learned and color it as she wished. During the next class she would tell me the colors she chose in the drawings and review their spellings.
