Naomi TS#2

On Wednesday, July 8th, at 8am. The topic for today's session was weather and seasons. I found a premade PowerPoint that I customized to fit my teaching style and the way I wanted the lesson to go. Today Je-ah seemed more enthusiastic, and I felt that the session had a better flow than the last one. I think a reason why this happened is that she already knew me, and I was way more prepared, and the topic was more focused in this session. I tried to incorporate as many short videos as I could to show the changes in the season and weather. I ended up adding clips from the movie Frozen and Pixie Hollow. The videos served as a great visual and a good pause between me asking her questions and explaining the content. In the end, we played a little game online that had her dress up the character for different weather and seasons. I did not realize this until after some time, but the screen sharing had paused since I had clicked out of the PowerPoint. I was mainly describing the clothes and asking her if the character should wear them or not for that season/ weather, so she was able to answer my questions. But then, when I got the screen sharing back to the right page, it became less awkward, and she was able to respond with more fluency. I am incredibly surprised by her ability to answer my questions despite her not seeing any visuals. In this session, it felt like she opened up more and was able to respond with more fluency. I expect that as I continue to build rapport, she will continue to be more communicative during the lessons. I will continue to use a similar lesson format to the one I used today for future lessons because I felt like this one had a good flow and was more conducive to participation. I will also make sure that screen sharing is working correctly throughout the lesson.
