Malyce TS #2

Date/Time: 7/01 at 3:00

Location: Zoom
Topic/Skill: Grad school

Feedback provided to tutee:
  • tutee did not have anything specific he wanted to work on, as his focus is on applying to grad school
    • he even told this to his professors, so, while he is working on his English learning, it is not his primary focus
  • answered his questions about recommendations, cover letters, etc.
  • showed him some resources on the FSU Career Center website
  • showed him an example of a spreadsheet to help him organize grad school info
  • sent him an email with various resources to help him in his grad school applications

Lesson(s) I learned about tutoring and/or the tutee:
  • was unaware until this tutoring session that my tutee's main focus was not so much on learning English as it is on applying to and being admitted in grad school
  • learned that he graduated from undergrad in 2014
  • learned that he does not like ESL classes being online and that he finds them less helpful than in-person classes
    • he is also frustrated that virtual classes still cost the same as in-person classes, as the virtual class does not provide the same types of experiences would be otherwise be provided (ex. going to a coffee shop as a group)
