Class Observation #5:
On Thursday, July 2, 2020 from 11:00 A.M. – 11:50 A.M. I observed
Dr. Ciappetta’s reading lesson. For this lesson, the students were told to take
30 minutes to read an article, newspaper, journal, anything in English and then
fill out a chart using the material they chose. Dr. Ciappetta gave the students
the chart for them to fill out themselves. This lesson, I chatted with the professor
while the students were writing, and we discussed different topics of interest
while the students wrote. After the students were finished writing, there was only
a few minutes left for discussion and the lesson covering chapter 2. However,
we did have some time, so we were able to read an article and then we were
split off into breakout groups to discuss reading questions. My partner and me talked
about science projects and whether the government should invest more time,
energy, and money into research programs. When the breakout session finished,
we returned to the main class and had the same discussion with the entire
class. I was surprised to learn that science fairs were not nearly as common outside the US as
I had believed.
