I met Hongru, my conversation partner for the second time. We started the conversation talking about some serious topics that are concerning international students in the U.S. at the moment.
I let Hongru talking most of the time, he has a lot of things to share and it is not difficult for me to keep the conversation alive because he never stops talking! The focus of the conversation moved to the differences between the Chinese educational system and the American educational system. It was really interesting to me, I didn't know the details about the Chinese educational system and Hongru also shared his family story, and how hard was for him to keep up with his studies. It was a good time for me to realise how our culture shapes our lives and our way of thinking. I am always aware of that as I have lived in different continents, but I am still amazed by all these cultural differences, and I love listening to people's experiences in different countries.
