This morning I met my tutee, Renata, for our third session. We focused the lesson on timed-speaking and we worked on Renata's presentation. She prepared a presentation about her passions that she made for her CIES speaking class. I used the tutoring session to let her practice her presentation. I gave her 5 minutes to present her topic, During the first attempt she struggled to use the time correctly (she focused her presentation on too many details). I gave her a structure to use while she was speaking (use 30 seconds to introduce the topic, use one minute to talk about the first point of her presentation and so on).
The second time that Renata practiced her presentation, she was able to use the time correctly, I gave her a lot of positive feedback and we discussed about few grammatical errors and mispronunciations. Renata practiced her presentation one more time focusing more on the pronunciation of words and on the tone of her voice and on the non-verbal communication.
It was a good session, we could both feel and realise, one more time, that practice is the key for success.
