Friday July 3rd, 2020 @ 9am EST / 10pm Korean
I had my first meeting with my new tutee Dujun this morning. I did not know what level of English he was at or what he needed so I decided to just go with the flow and get to know him. We talked about what cities we lived in and where we were from originally. I found out he had been in the Korean Air Force and studied aviation and we instantly hit it off. I told him about my family members that are also in the aviation industry and continued to talk about the industry and the hardships due to COVID. It was a pleasant conversation. I told Dujun he communicated very well and be did not believe me. He mentioned how he wants to be more fluent and practice speaking and listening since he has to communicate in English at his job. I told him I did notice some grammar mistakes regarding his use of articles or tenses but regardless or that I still understood and did not need much clarification and praised him for that. He mentioned he was confident in reading since in Korea, reading and grammar is stressed but his writing was lacking. We decided to meet up again same time next week and to focus on his speaking, listening and writing.
