Topic/Skill: Grammar
Teacher Presentation:
- Zoom meeting
- no powerpoint
- used Google Doc to present beautiful mistakes for students to use in small group and to go over in class
- used Zoom chat to emphasize some things and to share Google Doc and Hangouts links
Classroom Management:
- no behavioral issues
- one person was not responding when the teacher asked students to accept invitation to Google Hangouts, so she waited for a bit, and then moved on until student said she was having some issues
- Zoom
- phone for Google Hangouts sign up
- Google Doc
- 2 small group sessions (partner work)
- one activity was to work together in fixing the beautiful mistakes on the shared Google Doc
- the other activity was to have students share with their partners what they did last summer
- when students got back from their breakout rooms, the teacher asked them questions about what they discussed
- they addressed the issues with the beautiful mistakes and corrected them
- the teacher made sure everyone in the class shared their stories from last summer
- teacher asked, at the end each activity, what the point of that lesson was so as to allow students to connect what they had done with their grammar learning objective
- the teacher was very encouraging
- Ex. "very good start"
- Ex. "I love you effort"
- repeating instructions, giving them enough time to figure it out and do it, and speaking a bit more slowly can really help students
- asking students what the point of the lesson was can help them to connect what they did with the learning objective
