  • Grammar
  • Specifically phrasal verbs

Teacher Presentation:

  • Lecture/discussion based

Classroom Management:

  • No behavior issues of note.
  • Dr. Rios asked students a lot of questions and called on students to answer these questions.
  • Students seemed eager to learn and were themselves asking questions to the professor and volunteering to answer the Professor’s questions
  • Active participation and engagement is obviously a large part of this class

Materials:

  • Zoom
  • Handouts from textbook
  • Canvas submission link

Student Participation:

  • Students were very active participants throughout the entire class. It was obvious the Mr. Rios had built a rapport with the students.
  • Being that this was an upper intermediate class as well, it was obvious that students’ willingness to participate was partially related to their language skills.
  • Students were frequently asked to answer questions and many students volunteered to answer even if they had not been called upon.
  • Students offered jokes as well.

Feedback Provided:

  • Dr. Rios would correct students when they used phrasal verbs incorrectly or when they provided an incorrect definition but he always did so kindly and pointed to the aspects of the definition they provided that were correct.
  • Dr. Rios provided explanations for each correction.

Lesson(s) on teaching you learned:

  • Creating a fun classroom environment makes students more willing to participate and engage with content they may be unfamiliar with.
  • In an intermediate-advanced classroom, reviewing material using the inductive method is incredibly helpful for students to practice and perfect their grammar skills.
