Date/Time: 6/22/20 at 1:00
Topic/Skill: Speaking

Teacher Presentation:
  • Zoom
  • shared screen to go over video watching assignment
  • used chat to share name of someone she was talking about
  • had videos on Canvas for her students
Classroom Management:
  • no behavioral issues
  • when she asked a question and no one answered, she prompted her students by saying "Talk to me, people"

Materials:
  • Zoom
  • 2 YouTube Videos
  • 1 video from website
Student Participation:
  • students were asked about a previous group assignment/discussion
    •  they engaged in conversation with the teacher about what they learned about come of the culture of countries that other students were from
  • students were to watch the videos prior to their following listening class, so that they could talk about them
 Feedback Provided:
  • when one of the students said "I was enforced," the teacher asked a clarifying question and then corrected the student, saying that he should say "I was forced" instead (this was in their discussion about how parents in some countries forced their kids to play piano or do some other type of hobby)
  •  the teacher would frequently ask the students questions to continue the discussion
Lesson(s) I learned about teaching:
  • you can involve culture pretty easily in your students' writing and discussions, which can help them not only with their English but also in their cultural understanding of other countries
