Alice CO#1

This morning I observed a 4B Grammar Class taught by Dr. Pollock.
The lesson was on a Zoom meeting and the instructor, while he was waiting for all the participants, put a song in the background and I noticed that most of the students were secretly following the rhythm of the music, including me! When the song was over we started the lesson, the instructor asked what students had done during the weekend and all of them were encouraged to participate (he called them by name, one by one). After this first moment, Dr. Pollock went through rules and definition of the third conditional, the class went over it last week and today they repeated the grammar form and use. He wrote sentences and examples on a shared Word document, he asked each student to give an example and everyone had the possibility to participate. the instructor also shared their textbook on the screen and they completed an exercise about the third conditional together. Then Dr. Pollock introduced a new topic, the subjunctive mood (verb of suggestion and adjectives of importance). He first added examples on the textbook and then he guided each student through the composition of new examples (he gave a different verb to everyone in order to create different sentences). Dr. Pollock was guiding the students most of the time and he was correcting every grammatical mistake, most of the time he was asking to reformulate the sentence and to correct the mistake without the instructor's help. (Elicitation)
At the end, he asked for a feedback from the students, making sure that everyone was understanding. The only question that a student asked was related to their quiz and the instructor went over few different topics (Zero, first, second and third conditional) to prepare the students for the quiz that I assume is happening tomorrow. Overall the atmosphere was relaxed and intimate, students were encouraged to participate all the time.
